HOW MANY COURSES WILL YOU BE TAKING?

Ontario Online High School is structured in a QUAD-mester system, with 4 semesters throughout the school year. Each semester contains 2 courses for students to be enrolled on a full time basis. Please refer to the “Schedules” tab for more information.

Definitions:

  • 1 Course: A course is a specific class the student will be enrolling in. Each course equals to 1 credit, with the exception of the Grade 10 Civics and Careers Courses, which are 0.5 Credits. Ontario students need 30 credits to receive their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • 1 Semester - Full Time: This means that the student is enrolled in 2 courses throughout the day. Each semester runs for about 2 months, allowing for 110 hours of instruction. For more information on timelines, refer to the “Schedules” tab.
  • 1 Express Semester: Express semesters consist of 3 courses per semester - 2 during the day and 1 in the evening. Each semester runs for about 2 months, allowing for 110 hours of instruction. For more information on timelines, refer to the “Schedules” tab.
  • 1 School Year: This constitutes 4 semesters, each with 2 courses for students to complete. The School year begins in September and commences at the end of June.

(Remember to double check the course requirements to ensure you have all the prerequisites. A Guidance Counsellor will review your course selection and your prerequisites before confirming your schedule.)
